New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Congress leader and former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar trained guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the latter’s visit to the United Kingdom today.
“Bhagodagiri inki purani adat (running away is his old habit),” Kumar, who serves as the AICC incharge of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), posed on X, in a veiled attack on PM Modi.
“In childhood, they left school and ran away; in youth, they left their wife and ran away; in old age, they leave the country and run away,” he said, adding, “They have learnt these values from their ‘organisation’, which had left the freedom movement and run away.”
Kumar’s veiled attack comes as the opposition leaders have been demanding that the Prime Minister address both houses and the nation on crucial issues, including the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise being carried out by the Election Commission in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The opposition has also demanded that PM Modi respond to the repeated claims made by US President Donald Trump of initiating “ceasefire” between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor.
Earlier on Tuesday, Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the centre of being responsible for the adjournment of both houses due to its “refusal” to allow a discussion on alleged voter suppression through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, which he termed “votebandi.”
In a post on X, Ramesh wrote, “Today both Houses of Parliament had to be adjourned because the Modi government refused a discussion on votebandi being orchestrated in Bihar and other states by the EC.”
He also criticised the centre for not giving a timeline for discussions on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack, which the opposition has raised several times.
However, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised the opposition for disrupting proceedings. He said the government was open to discussions, but the protests were causing a waste of public funds.
“They (opposition) are demanding discussion, and we are ready for it. Then why are they not allowing the House to function? This double standard is wrong. If you want discussion, then do not create a ruckus. The government has said that we are ready for discussion. You are wasting public money,” Rijiju said.
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was chairing the Lok Sabha, also objected to Opposition members holding placards in the House.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha faced major disruptions on Tuesday, on the second day of the Monsoon Session, amid Opposition protest against the voters’ list revision in Bihar. Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till July 23. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will again meet at 11:00 AM today. (ANI)
